WHAT AND WHO: Get in gear to help develop a more effective treatment and find a cure for Lyme Disease by becoming a corporate sponsor of the GEAR UP FOR LYME MT. EQUINOX UPHILL BIKE CLIMB. Our goal is to help raise money for the Lyme Disease Association (LDA) as well as to help raise general awareness of Lyme Disease in our community. LDA supports research and treatment of Lyme Disease, which affects countless people throughout the US every year. Your sponsorship will further the development of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital's Lyme Disease Research and Treatment Center. The development of this multi disciplinary center will offer state-of-the- art treatment to Lyme Disease patients throughout the Northeast and beyond. The establishment of this center brings hope to countless individuals who suffer from the devastating effects of Lyme Disease. Further research should bring about better understanding of this complicated disease, known as 'The Great Imitator' for its ability to evade accurate diagnosis.

Lyme Disease is an infection by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi transmitted through the bite of a tick. If diagnosed early, treatment with antibiotic is highly successful. Diagnosed late, chronic Lyme infection can result in long-term debilitating arthritis, heart problems, and abnormalities of the nervous system. Lyme Disease is the fastest growing vector-borne disease in the United States. There was a 41% increase in the number of reported cases from 2002 to 2003. The threat continues to grow. Funding is desperately needed to further the development of more effective treatment and, ultimately, a cure.

WHY: Sponsorship of the GEAR UP FOR LYME MT. EQUINOX UPHILL BIKE CLIMB is a wonderful way to promote your company and to give back to the community at the same time. Press releases are planned in the major news papers in the area including the Bennington Banner, Manchester Journal, Vermont News Guide and Rutland Herald.

WHEN AND WHERE: The race is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 2, 2008. It is a 5.4 mile race up the Mt. Equinox Skyline Drive finishing at the top of Mt. Equinox in beautiful Manchester, VT.
